1) I love this genre but I didn’t like this book
I love both Middle Grade books and science fiction so it would seem like the Animorphus series would be right up my alley. But nope. No way. Not even close. I read the first book hated it, the whole idea of it, and stopped there.
2) I rarely read this genre but I loved this book
I rarely read mysteries, but something about this series sucked me in. I loved this first one and I read the others too, though I have to admit as the series went on I liked them less and less
3) I love this trope but I didn’t like this book
Two things I love Star Trek TNG and dead ships troupe. But this book doesn’t work for either. Quoting my review “Nobody acts like they would in the series. Picard is mean and cranky and yelling at everyone. Gerodi walks all over the Prime directive (after repeatedly thinking to himself, “Is this what Picard would do?”) Data just plays along with the whole thing.”
4) I hate this trope but I loved this book
I’ve never been a fan of love triangles. Most of the time they are totally unnecessary and distract from the story. However I can forgive Katniss for not knowing if Gale or Peeta was “the one”. Hard choice there.
5) I love this author but I didn’t like this book
P. K. Dick is one of the best science fiction authors out there, but Radio Free Albemuth is a low point. It’s weird but not in a good way and I can’t stand it when an author makes themselves a character in their own science fiction.
6) I previously disliked a book by this author but I loved this book
Michael Crichton is hit or miss for me. Andromeda Strain was a snooze. Sphere is a tight thriller.
7) I love this cover but I didn’t like this book
The brothers Hildebrandt know fantasy, at least when it comes to illustration, and the cover shows that. However, the story was pretty uninspiring and confusing.
8) I don’t like this cover but I loved this book
The cover is a little amateur, but this fantasy book has a totally unique story with a great MC and non-stop action. If it got the cover it deserved this books would be on fire!
