Classic Remarks Redux: #3

#ClassicRemarksRedux – Thanks to the ladies at Pages Unbound for the prompts and inspiration.

See my intro post to find out more about my Classic Remarks Redux series. Thanks to the ladies at Pages Unbound for the prompts and inspiration.

Prompt #3 from Dec. 16, 2016: Tell us about your favorite Charles Dickens novel.

I have to agree with Krysta on the original post and say A Tale of Two Cities is my favorite Dickens novel. I have tried to read David Copperfield and Olive Twist but couldn’t get into either of them (though that was 20 some years ago, so maybe it’s time to give it another go.)

Set against the violent upheaval of the French Revolution. The most famous and perhaps the most popular of his works, it compresses an event of immense complexity to the scale of a family history, with a cast of characters that includes a bloodthirsty ogress and an antihero as believably flawed as any in modern fiction. Though the least typical of the author’s novels, A Tale of Two Cities still underscores many of his enduring themes—imprisonment, injustice, social anarchy, resurrection, and the renunciation that fosters renewal.
